SUBJECT:
Fore/Aft Movement Of Fascia At Upper Corners Of The Grille
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves inspecting the radiator closure panel and if necessary replacing and/or installing new fasteners. The two bolts that secure the front fascia to the radiator closure panel at the grille area may be too long and bottoming out on the boss shelf, which may cause the mounting surfaces of the radiator closure panel to crack.

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles built before August 02, 2010 (MDHO802XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience a buffeting and/or windnoise from the front of the vehicle.
DIAGNOSIS:
If a customer's VIN is listed in VIP or your RRT VIN list, perform the repair. For all other customers that describe the symptom/condition, perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Remove the grille. Refer to the detailed removal and installation procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > : Service Info > 23-Body > Exterior > Grille, Avenger > Removal.
2. Inspect the radiator closure panel for signs of cracking at the fascia bolt locations on the right and left side (2) shown in (Fig 1)(Fig 2). Were there any signs of cracking?
a. Yes >>> Proceed to Step # 3.
b. No >>> Install bolt p/n 06105097AA to the left and right side fascia to radiator closure panel mounting locations (grille area)(Fig 1) then proceed to Step # 33.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Remove the grille. Refer to the detailed removal and installation procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > : Service Info > 23-Body > Exterior > Grille, Avenger > Removal.
2. Inspect the radiator closure panel for signs of cracking at the fascia bolt locations on the right and left side (2) shown in (Fig 1)(Fig 2). Were there any signs of cracking?
a. Yes >>> Proceed to Step # 3.
b. No >>> Install bolt p/n 06105097AA to the left and right side fascia to radiator closure panel mounting locations (grille area)(Fig 1) then proceed to Step # 33.
3. Remove front fascia. Refer to the detailed removal and installation procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > : Service Info > 13-Frame and Bumpers > Bumpers > Fascia, Front > Removal.
4. Remove the right and left head lamps. Refer to the detailed removal and installation procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > : Service Info > 08-Electrical > 8L-Lamps and Lighting > Unit, Front Lamp > Removal > Lamp Unit.
5. Disconnect the heater module and head lamp electrical connector (Fig. 3).
6. Disconnect the radiator hoses from the radiator and drain residual coolant from the hoses.
7. Disconnect and remove the airbag sensors from the radiator closure panel. Refer to the detailed removal and installation procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > : Service Info > 10-Restraints > Sensor, Impact > Removal > Front Sensor.
8. Remove the two fasteners securing the windshield washer reservoir to the radiator closure panel (Fig. 4) and the pump electrical connector (Fig. 5).
9. Remove the ground strap mounted to the vehicle near the windshield washer reservoir.
10. Disconnect the radiator fan electrical connector.
11. Remove the twelve bolts securing the radiator carrier panel to the vehicle and place the panel on a bench.
12. Remove the cooling fan with the radiator condenser. Following steps 1 through 5 and 12 through 17. Refer to the detailed removal and installation procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > : Service Info > 07-Cooling > Radiator > Engine > Radiator, Engine Cooling > Removal > Radiator.
13. Remove the A/C condenser. Following steps 4 through 19. Refer to the detailed removal and installation procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > :
Service Info > 24-Heating and Air Conditioning > Plumbing > Condensor, A/C > Removal.
14. Remove the front reinforcement bumper. Following steps 2 through 7. Refer to the detailed removal and installation procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > : Service Info > 13-Frame and Bumpers > Bumpers > Reinforcement, Bumper, Front > Removal.
15. Remove the horn. Following steps 3 through 5. Refer to the detailed removal and installation procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > : Service Info > 08-Electrical > 8H-Horn > Horn > Removal.
16. Remove the hood anti theft switch and bracket. Refer to the detailed removal and installation procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > : Service Info > 08 Electrical > 8Q-Vehicle Theft Security > Switch, Hood Adjar, Export > Removal.
17. Remove the radiator baffles as shown in (Fig. 7).
18. Remove the wire harness mounted to the radiator closure panel.
19. With the radiator closure panel face up on the bench install the front reinforcement bumper. Following steps 2 through 7. Refer to the detailed removal and installation procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT >: Service Info > 13-Frame and Bumpers > Bumpers > Reinforcement, Bumper, Front > Install.
20. Install the radiator baffles (Fig. 7).
21. With the new radiator close out panel positioned face down on the bench install the wire harness.
22. Install the hood anti theft switch and bracket. Refer to the detailed removal and installation procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > : Service Info > 08 Electrical > 8Q-Vehicle Theft Security > Switch, Hood Adjar, Export > Removal.
23. Install the horn. Following steps 3 through 5. Refer to the detailed removal and installation procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > : Service Info > 08-Electrical > 8H-Horn > Horn > Installation.
24. Install the radiator with the A/C condenser and cooling fan. Following steps 1, 2, 3 and 6 refer to the detailed removal and installation procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > : Service Info > 07-Cooling > Radiator > Engine > Radiator, Engine Cooling > installation > Radiator.
25. Position new radiator closure panel and secure it to the vehicle (Fig. 6).
26. Reconnect the ground strap to the vehicle body near the windshield washer reservoir.
27. Install the two fasteners securing the windshield washer reservoir to the radiator closure panel (Fig. 4) and the pump electrical connector (Fig. 5).
28. Connect and install the airbag sensors from the radiator closure panel. Refer to the detailed removal and installation procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > : Service Info > 10-Restraints > Sensor, Impact> Installation > Front Sensor
29. Connect the A/C lines. Following steps 6-17 and 21 refer to the detailed removal and installation procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > : Service Info > 24-Heating and Air Conditioning > Plumbing > Condensor, A/C > Installation.
30. Connect the upper and lower radiator hoses, cooling fan connector and top off cooling fluid. Following steps 7, 8 and 12 refer to the detailed removal and installation procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > : Service Info > 07-Cooling > Radiator > Engine > Radiator, Engine Cooling > installation > Radiator.
31. Install front fascia. Refer to the detailed removal and installation procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > : Service Info > 13-Frame and Bumpers > Bumpers > Fascia, Front > Installation.
WARNING:
When installing the front fascia be sure to install p/n 06105097AA where the fasica mounts to the radiator closure panel at the grille area on the right and left side (Fig 1).
32. Install the right and left headlamps. Refer to the detailed removal and installation procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > : Service Info > 08-Electrical > 8L-Lamps and Lighting > Unit, Front Lamp > Installation > Lamp Unit.
33. Install the grille. Refer to the detailed removal and installation procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > : Service Info > 23-Body > Exterior > Grille, Avenger > Removal.
34. Return the vehicle to the customer or dealer inventory.
