Fuel Tank - Removal

REMOVAL

WARNING: The fuel system is under constant high pressure even with engine off. Until the fuel pressure has been properly released from the system, do not attempt to open the fuel system. Do not smoke or use open flames/sparks when servicing the fuel system. Wear protective clothing and eye protection. Make sure the area in which the vehicle is being serviced is in a well ventilated area and free of flames/sparks. Failure to comply may result in serious or fatal injury.

WARNING: No sparks, open flames or smoking. Risk of poisoning from inhaling and swallowing fuel. Pour fuel only into appropriately marked OSHA approved containers. Wear protective clothing. Risk of injury to eyes and skin from contact with fuel.





1. Perform the fuel system pressure release procedure Service and Repair.

CAUTION: If the electric fuel pump module is not operating or the fuel level sending unit is not operating and the fuel level cannot be determined, the fuel tank must be removed prior to draining. If the fuel level is above 5/8 of a tank and the fuel pump module lock-ring is removed, fuel will spill into the interior of the vehicle

2. If required, perform the draining fuel tank procedure . Procedures
3. Disconnect the negative battery cable (2).
4. Raise and support the vehicle.
5. Remove the left rear tire.





6. Remove the left rear wheelhouse splash shield.





7. Disconnect the fuel filler tube vent line.





8. Remove the hose clamp from the fuel filler tube.





9. Remove fuel filler tube from the rubber hose on the fuel tank.





10. Remove the muffler and tailpipe assembly (2) Removal.
11. Remove the propeller shaft Propeller Shaft - Removal.





12. If equipped, remove the left underbody splash shield (1).





13. If equipped, remove the right underbody splash shield (1).





14. Disconnect the EVAP line in the right rear wheel well.





15. Disconnect the vapor line.





16. Disconnect the fuel supply line.
17. Using a suitable hydraulic jack with a fuel tank adapter, support the fuel tank.





18. Remove the fuel tank support strap retaining bolts.





19. Remove the fuel tank support straps.





20. Carefully lower the fuel tank and pull the fuel filler tube vent line through bracket.





21. If required, disconnect the electrical connector (1) from the left side fuel pump module.





22. If required, disconnect the fuel return line (2) at the right side auxiliary fuel pump module (1).










23. Lower and remove the fuel tank from the vehicle.
