Rear Axle Shaft Replacement

Fig. 6 Axle Shaft Self-locking Nut Removal:





1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assembly.
2. On models with Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), remove ABS sensor and O-ring.
3. On all models, remove brake caliper and suspend with wire.
4. Using end yoke holder tool No. MB990767 or equivalent to secure axle shaft, remove companion shaft self-locking nut.
5. Using slide hammer tool No. C-637 and axle puller tool No. CT-1003 or equivalents, remove axle shaft assembly.
6. Reverse procedure to install. On Eagle Talon models, torque axle shaft self-locking nut to 116-159 lb-ft. On Stealth models, torque axle shaft self-locking nut to 188-217 lb-ft.
