3.5L A/C Compressor Noise

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN NO. 24-18-93 WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM YOUR FILES. REPAIR PARTS AND PROCEDURES HAVE BEEN ADDED.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The air conditioning compressor on 3.5L engine equipped vehicles has been the source of noise complaints. A fix has been developed for a 2100 RPM noise. This noise does not represent a durability concern.

2100 RPM Compressor Noise Description:

- Noise has been described as "resonating tone", "moan" and "low whistle".

- Noise level peaks at approximately 2100 engine RPM not very noticeable at other RPM's.

- Noise is most noticeable after compressor clutch has been engaged or cycling for approximately five minutes.

If the vehicle exhibits this condition, perform the repair procedure.

NOTE:
REPLACING THE COMPRESSOR WILL NOT REDUCE THIS NOISE.

PARTS REQUIRED:

1 Damper Weight 5264445
1 Hose Clamp 2448763

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves adding a damper weight to the A/C suction hose.

1) Raise vehicle on a suitable hoist.





2) Attach the damper weight, using the hose clamp, around the rubber portion of the suction hose 1" from the rear crimp.
