WARNING: Disable the airbag system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery (ground) cable. Wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

NOTE: A/C equipped model shown. Heater only model similar.





1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the engine trim cover.
3. Partially drain the engine cooling system Service and Repair.
4. Disengage the two tabs (2) that secure each heater hose connector (1 and 3) to the heater core tubes and disconnect the connectors from the tubes.
5. Install plugs in, or tape over the heater core tubes to prevent coolant spillage inside the vehicle during HVAC housing removal.





6. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system Refrigerant System Recovery.
7. Remove the nuts (3) that secure the A/C suction line (2) and A/C liquid line (4) to the A/C expansion valve (1).
8. Disconnect the A/C suction and liquid lines from the A/C expansion valve and remove and discard the O-ring seals.
9. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant line fittings and the expansion valve ports.






NOTE: Manual Temperature Control (MTC) shown. Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) similar.

10. Using trim stick C-4755 or equivalent (3), disengage the retaining tabs that secure the control panel (1) to the A/C heater control and remove the control panel from the instrument panel (2).

11. Remove the instrument panel center bezel Instrument Panel Center Bezel - Removal.
12. Remove the four screws (2, 3, 5 and 6) that secure the A/C heater control (1) to the instrument panel cover (4).
13. Remove the instrument panel cover Instrument Panel Cover - Removal.





14. When equipped with ATC, disconnect the HVAC wire harness from the A/C heater control and remove the control A/C And Heater Control - Removal.
15. Remove the floor distribution ducts from each side of the HVAC housing Floor Distribution Duct - Removal.
16. Remove the five nuts that secure the HVAC housing to the instrument panel support, at the locations shown.





17. Remove the instrument panel support Instrument Panel - Removal.
18. Disconnect the condensate drain hose (1) from the HVAC housing (3) and remove the HVAC housing from the vehicle.
19. If required, remove the condensate drain hose from the floor panel (2).
