In Tank Fuel Filter - Damage Prevention
83ford4 Article No. 83-25-22FUEL SYSTEM - (7.5L) - DAMAGE TO IN-FUEL TANK FILTER ASSEMBLY ON UNITS WITH IN-TANK ELECTRIC FUEL PUMPS
LIGHT TRUCKS 1983 E AND F SERIES
Improper fuel sender removal on 7.5L applications with electric in-tank fuel pump can result in damage to the filter. This results in the sender being replaced, even though the original concern may have been only to replace a gasket.
The fuel pump/senders listed below (Engineering Part Number) all use filter part number D7AZ-9A011-A. If, when removing one of the senders from the fuel tank the filter is damaged, replace it with part number D7AZ- 9A011-A.
Vehicle Sender Part No. Application
Econoline E3UF-9H307-AD 7.5L, 22 Gal. Aft Axle Tank
Econoline E3UF-9H307-BD 7.5L, 22 Gal. Aft Axle Tank
Econoline E3UF-9H307-CC 7.5L, 18 Gal. Midship Tank
F Series/Bronco E3TF-9H307-AD 7.5L, 19 Gal. Midship Tank
F Series/Bronco E3TF-9H307-BD 7.5L, 19 Gal. Aft Tank (Steel)
F Series/Bronco E3TF-9H307-CD 7.5L, 19 Gal. Aft Tank (plastic)
The above are all pump/senders used on hot fuel handling applications. Replacing the filter only, instead of the entire pump/sender, will reduce the unit service costs.
Figure 16:
Refer to the 1983 Truck Shop Manual Section 33-20 for draining of fuel tank and fuel sender removal. Grasp sender firmly at pump and pull filter off pump using a twisting, pulling motion. Push on new filter and carefully index to proper position (Refer to Figure 16). Reinstall fuel tank.
