ALTITUDE COMPENSATOR KIT (E3UZ-9000-B)

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

NOTE: If the Altitude Compensator Kit is being installed at the same time as ambulance modification kits E5UZ-9000-A/E3TZ-9000-A, and E3TZ-9000-B, proceed to Step "5". If those modification kits were previously installed, begin at Step "1".

1. Remove the interior engine cover for accessibility to the engine.

2. Remove the air cleaner.

3. Remove the carburetor for accessibility to the PCV hose and tube assembly. (This step not necessary if PCV system has been previously changed to rubber hose).

4. Remove the PCV hose and steel tube assembly and discard. (This step not necessary if the PCV system has been previously changed to rubber hose).

FIGURE 1:

5. Fabricate a new PCV line from bulk 3/8" hose (381337-S) (Item 2) by cutting hose lengths necessary to install a 3/8" plastic tee (part number 388131-S) (Item 3) near the front of the carburetor in the PCV line if not already done as part of installation of Kit E5UZ-9000-A. Route the new PCV hose with the 3/8" plastic tee under the spark plug wire along right rocker arm cover to the front of the carburetor throttle body. (See Figure 1).

NOTE: If the PCV system has been previously changed to rubber hose, cut the PCV hose and install a 3/8" plastic tee for the altitude compensator as near to the carburetor PCV port as possible.

6. Remove the right side battery for access to the right fender apron.

7. Mount the altitude compensator assembly (part number E8UE-9F701-AA) (Item 1) to right fender apron raised pad area using two (2) 1/4-20 nut and washer assemblies (part number 34657-S36) (Item 6) provided. (See Figure 2). Torque nuts to 6-9 N-m (55-85 in. lbs.).

NOTE: If mounting holes are not drilled through the fender apron, drill two (2) 5/16" holes. Use stamped dimples in the raised pad area as hole locaters. Seal any open holes or voids in the fender apron with body sealer to prevent moisture/dust contamination of compensator air inlet filter.

8. Route the 3/8" hose from the altitude compensator air manifold to the 3/8" plastic tee which was installed in the PCV hose in Step "5". Cut hose to desired length. (See Figure 1).

NOTE: Route hose so it is elevated above the PCV hose (minimum six (6) inches) to prevent possible fuel/oil migration to the compensator assembly.

9. If previously removed, reinstall the carburetor using a new carburetor gasket provided (part number E5HE- 9C477-BA) (Item 7)

10. Install a 3/16" plastic tee (part number 383007-S) (Item 4) and a 1.0" length of 3/16" vacuum hose (part number 381320-S) (Item 10) into the open end of the EGR vacuum line (white plastic) and connect the 3/16" vacuum hose to the carburetor EGR port. (See Figure 1).

11. Route the 3/16" vacuum hose (green stripe) from the altitude compensator vacuum valve (black) to the plastic tee which was installed in the EGR vacuum line (reference Step "9"). Cut hose to required length.

12. Locate the intake manifold vacuum fitting (tree) at the front of the intake manifold (forward of the carburetor). Install a 1/4-3/16 vacuum tee (part number 383017-S) (Item 5) in the 1/4" vacuum line connected to the intake manifold tree. Cut the 1/4" vacuum hose at a convenient location and insert the vacuum tee.

13. Route the 3/16" vacuum hose (red stripe) from the altitude compensator vacuum electric switches to the vacuum tee installed in Step "8". Cut hose to required length.

14. Complete electrical wiring (cut wires to required lengths) per attached diagram (See Figure 1). Install fuse holder (part number SWX-1447) (Item 11) in the power source lead (red wire). Tap into 12V (298 circuit) for power source (pink (purple)/orange stripe) using wiring tap (part number C9PJ-14487-A) (Item 8). Ground compensator assembly (black wire) to body using ring tongue terminal (part number WT-5506) (Item 9). Install 10 AMP fuse (part number D9ZB-14A094-CA) (Item 12) into the fuse holder.

15. Reinstall battery.

16. Reinstall air cleaner.

17. Check engine initial timing. Set to 10~ BTDC.

18. Reinstall engine cover.
