Instructions Revised 7-6-87 Including

^ Revised Vortec Wiring Diagram

^ Replace Manual Throttle Actuator With Electric

INTRODUCTION

The High Idle Thermactor Air Bypass Kit is used only on vehicles equipped with an electrically activated throttle actuator device installed by the ambulance builder. It is designed to bypass thermactor air to the air cleaner (1985-1/2-1987 models) or to the atmosphere (1983-1985-1/2 models) when the throttle device is actuated.

If the thermactor system has been deactivated by the removal of the air pump drive belt, the system must be reactivated. However, before installing a new pump drive belt, several procedures must be followed to determine the condition of the system components. These procedures are outlined in the 1987 Engine/Emissions Diagnosis Shop Manual, Volume H, pages 3-3, 3-5, 3-8, 3-15 and 3-16. The procedures on pages 3-15 or 3-16 should be performed first. Perform any corrective action required.

NOTE: Long term deactivation of the thermactor system will lead to component deterioration due to heat.

These instructions include wiring diagrams for the most frequently used throttle actuator devices. It will be necessary to determine the type used and then refer to the appropriate wiring-diagram when installing the vacuum solenoid (E1ZE-12A170-B2A) (Item 1).

Listed below are descriptions of the throttle actuators most frequently used.

NOTE: An electrical throttle actuator device must be installed on vehicles not so equipped prior to installing the high idle thermactor air bypass kit (E3TZ-9000-B). Contact customer to arrange for installation. If you require further assistance contact your Ford Parts and Service Division District Office.

VORTEC

The Vortec throttle actuator uses a vacuum solenoid which controls the throttle actuator. It will be necessary to use a relay and wiring assembly when connecting into this system.

The actuator will activate only when the manual control switch is "ON" and the transmission is in "PARK" or "NEUTRAL" position.

The brake pedal must NOT be depressed.

VANNER

The Vanner throttle actuator is fully electric and does not require use of the relay provided in the kit. The actuator will activate only when the manual control switch is "ON" and the transmission is in "PARK" or "NEUTRAL" position. The brake pedal must NOT be depressed.

NOTE: If the vehicle is equipped with an electrical throttle actuator device not listed in these instructions and you require further assistance, contact your Ford Parts and Service Division District Office.
