Carburetur Float Level Adjustment Procedure
REPAIR PROCEDURE1. Park the vehicle on a level surface.
2. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
3. Start the engine and check to assure that fuel is not leaking from carburetor.
4. Run the engine at 1000 RPM for about 30 seconds to stabilize the fuel level.
5. Stop the engine and remove the sight plug on the side of the carburetor bowl.
6. Check the fuel level it should be at the bottom of the sight plug hole. If fuel spills out when the sight plug is removed, lower the fuel level. If the fuel level is below the sight plug hole, raise the fuel level. CAUTION:
- DO NOT LOOSEN THE LOCK NUT OR SCREW, OR ATTEMPT TO ADJUST THE FUEL LEVEL WITH THE SIGHT PLUG REMOVED OR THE ENGINE RUNNING BECAUSE FUEL MAY SPRAY OUT CREATING A FIRE HAZARD.
FIGURE 19:
7. Determine which type of needle and seat assembly the carburetor is equipped with Type A will usually be brass colored and Type B will usually be silver colored.
8. Adjust the float level as necessary.
Type A - Loosen the lock nut. Turn the adjusting slot clockwise to lower the fuel level and counter-clockwise to raise the fuel level. (1/6 turn of the adjusting slot will change the fuel level approximately 1/32 of an inch). Tighten the lock nut and install the sight plug using the old gasket. NOTE: Damage to the fuel bowl threads will occur if the lock is over-tightened. Start the engine and run it at 1000 RPM for about 30 seconds to stabilize the fuel level.
Type B - Loosen the lock screw. Turn the adjusting nut clockwise to lower the fuel level or counter-clockwise to raise the fuel level. (1/6 turn of the adjusting nut will change the fuel level approximately 1/32 of an inch). Tighten the lock screw and install the sight plug using the old gasket. Start the engine and run it at 1000 RPM for about 30 seconds to stabilize the fuel level.
9. Stop the engine. Remove the sight plug and check the fuel level. Repeat Step 8 until the fuel level is at the bottom of the sight plug hole. When the fuel level is at the bottom of the sight plug hole. Install the sight plug using a new gasket. (Item 1).
10. Install the air cleaner assembly and adjust the curb idle as required.
