ISSUE: The crankcase vent tube assembly connecting the crankcase depression regulator (CDR) to the valley pan has been revised. The old crankcase vent tube assembly consisted of a steel crankcase ventilation tube, a nylon backup ring and an O-ring, Figure 9. The new crankcase vent tube assembly consists of a rubber crankcase ventilation hose, a nylon hose adapter and two (2) hose clamps, Figure 10.
ACTION: If service is required, use the following procedure to install the crankcase vent tube assembly and crankcase depression regulator.
OLD DESIGN CRANKCASE VENT TUBE ASSEMBLY
1. Refer to the Light Truck Shop Manual, Volume B, Section 22-08.
2. Follow the instructions for removal and installation of the crankcase depression regulator (CDR).
NEW DESIGN CRANKCASE VENT TUBE ASSEMBLY
Removal and Inspection
1. Remove the air cleaner and air cleaner housing from the intake manifold. Install the manifold protector cap (Tool No. T83T-9424-A) on the intake manifold.

2. Remove the two (2) bolts and washers which attach the CDR valve to the intake manifold.
NOTE: ONE BOLT IS USED TO HOLD THE FUEL RETURN HOSE CLIP AND THE CDR VALVE, FIGURE 11. REMOVE THE FUEL RETURN HOSE CLIP AND SET IT ASIDE DURING THE REMOVAL PROCESS.

3. Remove the CDR valve, hose and hose adapter from the engine as an assembly by pulling upward, slipping the hose adapter out of the valley pan grommet, Figure 12.
4. Inspect the nylon adapter and hose for cracks or signs of deterioration. Replace damaged components as required.
5. Cut and discard the hose clamps prior to removing hose and adapter from the CDR valve.
Installation
1. Loosely assemble the CDR valve, hose, two (2) new hose clamps and nylon hose adapter.
NOTE: DO NOT TIGHTEN THE HOSE CLAMPS.
2. Coat the nylon adapter and valley pan grommet with clean engine oil prior to installation.
3. Install the CDR assembly on the engine by inserting the nylon adapter into the valley pan grommet.

4. Fasten the CDR valve to the intake manifold using the two (2) 5/16"-18 x 3/4" bolts with 5/16" hardened washers. Install the fuel return hose clip, Figure 11. Torque bolts to 14 ft.lbs. (19 N-m).
5. Adjust the hose on the CDR valve to the hose adapter making sure the hose adapter is bottomed and properly seated in the valley pan grommet.
6. Tighten the hose clamps using hand clamping tool or end cutter pliers.
