Disassemble
Type 1 Ford SROD Four Speed Overdrive Transmission Exploded View:
1. Remove transmission cover retaining screws. and remove cover and gasket.
Removing Detent Plug, Spring & Screw:
2. Remove screw, detent spring and detent plug from case. A magnetic rod may have to used to remove spring and detent plug.
Removing Shifter Shaft Roll Pin:
3. Drive roll pin from shifter shaft, then remove back-up light switch, snap ring and dust cover from rear of extension housing.
Removing Shifter Shaft:
4. Remove shifter shaft from turret assembly, then remove extension housing retaining screws, and extension housing and gasket.
5. Remove speedometer gear retaining snap ring, then slide speedometer gear off shaft and remove drive ball.
Removing Output Shaft Bearing:
6. Remove output shaft bearing to shaft retaining snap ring, then using two screwdrivers, pry out bearing.
7. From front of case, push countershaft out of rear of case with a dummy shaft. Lower countershaft to bottom of case.
8. Remove input shaft bearing retainer bolts, then slide retainer and gasket off input shaft.
9. Remove input shaft bearing to shaft retaining snap ring, then remove input shaft bearing from input shaft and transmission case.
10. Remove input shaft, blocking ring and roller bearings from case.
11. Remove overdrive shift pawl, gear selector interlock plate and 1-2 gearshift selector arm plate.
Removing 3rd-Overdrive Shift Fork Roll Pin:
Removing 3rd-Overdrive Shift Rail:
12. Remove roll pin from 3rd-overdrive shift fork, then remove 3rd overdrive shift rail.
13. Remove first, second, and third overdrive speed shift fork.
14. Lift countershaft gear and thrust washers from case. Use care to avoid dropping the bearings or dummy shaft from countershaft gear.
15. Remove snap ring from front of output shaft, then slide third and overdrive synchronizer blocking ring and gear off the shaft.
16. Remove the next snap ring and thrust washer. First speed gear and blocking ring from rear of shaft.
17. Lift countershaft gear thrust washers and roller bearings from case. Use care to avoid dropping the bearings or dummy shaft from countershaft gear.
18. From front of case. drive the reverse gear shaft out of case.
19. Remove reverse idler gear, thrust washers and roller bearings. Use care to avoid dropping bearing.
20. Remove retaining clip, reverse gearshift relay lever and reverse gear selector fork pivot pin.
21. Remove overdrive shift control link assembly, then remove shift shaft seal from rear of case.
22. Remove expansion plug from front of case.
