1. Disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system.
2. On models equipped with an engine compartment light, disconnect electrical connector from light.
3. Mark hood hinge locations and remove hood.
4. Remove air cleaner assembly including air intake duct and heat tube.
5. Remove fan shroud attaching screws, then the fan and clutch assembly attaching bolts.
6. Remove fan and clutch assembly and fan shroud from vehicle.
7. Loosen accessory drive belt idler, then remove drive belt and water pump pulley.
8. Disconnect upper and lower hoses from radiator.
9. Disconnect Thermactor hose from downstream air tube check valve, then remove air tube bracket attaching bolt from rear of right cylinder head.
10. Remove coil secondary wire from ignition coil.
11. On models equipped with power steering, disconnect steering pump from mounting bracket and position aside with hoses connected.
12. On models equipped with A/C, disconnect A/C compressor from mounting bracket and secure to right shock tower with hoses connected.
13. On all models, remove alternator attaching bolts and position alternator aside.
14. Disconnect hoses from heater core tubes.
15. On models equipped with speed control, disconnect servo chain from carburetor, then remove servo attaching bolts and the servo.
16. On all models, disconnect necessary vacuum hoses for engine removal.
17. Remove engine ground strap attaching screw from dash, then disconnect transmission linkage from carburetor.
18. Disconnect accelerator cable from carburetor, then remove cable routing bracket attaching bolts.
19. Disconnect electrical connectors necessary for engine removal.
20. Disconnect fuel inlet line and PCV hose from carburetor, then remove carburetor from vehicle.
21. Install engine lifting plate No. T75T-6000-A or equivalent over carburetor hold down studs, leaving EGR spacer and phenolic gasket in place. Tighten nuts securely. All studs must be used to secure the lifting plate to avoid damaging the intake manifold. When using the lifting plate, do not remove engine and transmission as an assembly.
22. Raise and support vehicle.
23. Drain engine oil, then disconnect and plug fuel inlet line from fuel pump.
24. Remove dust shield from transmission converter housing, if equipped.
25. Remove flexplate-to-torque converter attaching nuts.
26. Disconnect battery cable from starter motor, then remove starter attaching bolts and the starter.
27. Remove transmission oil cooler line routing clip.
28. Remove exhaust pipe-to-exhaust manifold attaching nuts.
29. Remove 4 transmission-to-engine lower attaching bolts.
30. Remove engine mount-to-crossmember attaching nuts, then lower the vehicle.
31. Support transmission using a suitable jack, then remove 2 upper transmission-to-engine attaching bolts.
32. Place a piece of 1/4 inch plywood between radiator and engine to protect radiator.
33. Raise engine slightly, using a suitable lifting device, and carefully separate from transmission, then lift engine from vehicle.
34. Reverse procedure to install.
