8. On all models, disconnect coolant bypass hose and heater hose from water pump and the upper radiator hose from thermostat housing.
9. Disconnect coil wire from distributor cap, then remove cap with wires attached.
10. With cylinder No. 1 at TDC of compression stroke, mark position of rotor to distributor housing and position of distributor housing to front cover.
11. Remove distributor hold-down clamp, then lift distributor from front cover.
12. Raise and support vehicle.
13. Remove crankshaft damper using a suitable puller.
14. Remove fuel pump crash shield, if equipped.

17. Remove oil filter, then disconnect lower radiator hose from water pump.
18. Remove oil pan as described under ``Oil Pan, Replace''.
19. Lower vehicle, then remove timing case cover attaching bolts, Fig. 29. Ensure to remove the cover attaching bolt located behind the oil filter adapter.
20. Remove ignition timing indicator, then the timing case cover and water pump as an assembly.
21. Reverse procedure to install. Before installing bolt at location No. 10, Fig. 29, coat threads of bolt with pipe sealant D8AZ-19558-A or equivalent. Torque cover attaching bolts to 15-22 ft. lbs. If a replacement front cover is to be installed, the water pump, oil pump, oil filter adapter and intermediate shaft must be removed from the original front cover and reinstalled on the replacement cover. Also, it may be necessary to rotate crankshaft 180° from the No. 1 cylinder TDC location to position fuel pump eccentric for fuel pump installation. When installing distributor, No. 1 cylinder must be at TDC position and marks made during removal must be aligned.
