A.VV Carburetor and Associated Hardware Removal

1. Rotate engine to #1 cylinder firing (TDC) position.
2. Disconnect battery.
3. Drain coolant.
4. Remove air cleaner assembly.
5. Remove purge harness assembly.
6. Disconnect heater inlet hose at intake manifold fitting (discard hose).
7. Remove EGR coolant heater hose 3-way tee, and replace it with the elbow included in the kit (382956-S). The water pump outlet hose will then be connected to the heater inlet hose. The EGR coolant hose will be discarded later.
8. Remove the accelerator bracket, and remove engine ground strap from engine.
9. The thermactor air bypass valve (located at front of engine on right side) has a 17 inch long pink vacuum hose attached. Disconnect this hose at the vacuum harness, leaving it connected to the air bypass valve.
10. The thermactor exhaust air control valve (located at the right side of engine) has an 11 inch long pink vacuum hose attached. Disconnect this hose at the vacuum harness, leaving it connected to the exhaust air control valve.
11. Remove the bank of two solenoids on the right side of engine, and remove the associated vacuum hoses.
12. Remove engine electrical harness and secure under heater plenum on right side of engine, using bundling straps. Disconnect the EEC power relay, located near the battery.
13. At the intake manifold, remove and label the vacuum hose that is treed, at the dash panel, to the transmission and air conditioning.
14. On air conditioned vehicles only, locate the following vacuum lines and connector:
^ The 14 inch blue hose that connects the throttle kicker to the A/C solenoid.
^ The 2 port connector attaching the above hose to the solenoid.
^ The 2-1/2 inch red vacuum hose and the 19 inch red vacuum hose, teed to the other port of the same connector.

Remove the above hardware as an assembly and save.
15. Remove all other vacuum lines from engine, and save the PCV valve and associated vacuum lines.
16. Remove spark plug wires from distributor cap and spark plugs.
17. Remove carb fuel line from fuel pump and from carburetor.
18. Remove kickdown rod from transmission and from carburetor.
19. Remove upper radiator hose at manifold.
20. Remove cap, adapter, and distributor and plug hole with a clean rag.
21. Disconnect thermostat housing at manifold, and remove thermostat for re-use on new intake manifold.
22. Remove EGR wires/connectors and secure out of the way.
23. Remove intake manifold and all attached hardware. Loosen EGR valve for better access to intake manifold bolts.
