NOISE - ENGINE (6.9L) - ACCELERATOR CABLE

LIGHT TRUCKS 1983-85 F250/350

If a knocking or ticking noise (other than normal diesel sound) is heard in the passenger compartment, the noise may be caused by the accelerator cable contacting the number eight fuel injector line. Before starting any work on the engine, perform the following:

^ Visually determine if the accelerator cable is contacting the #8 fuel injector line.
^ Ensure that the accelerator cable is routed behind the fuel line.

FIGURE 5 - ACCELERATOR CABLE:

^ If the cable is contacting the fuel line, tie the cable to the right hand rear lifting eye using strap part no. 95874-S. Tighten the strap to provide clearance between the fuel line and the accelerator cable (Figure 5).
^ If the knocking or ticking noise (other than normal diesel sound) continues, investigate the valve train and engine power areas.
