BRAKE - REAR - SENSITIVITY - SINGLE REAR WHEEL VEHICLES OVER 8500 GVW W/6.9L OR 7.5L ENGINES

LIGHT TRUCKS 1983 F-250/350

Rear brake sensitivity on moderate to heavy brake applications with empty or lightly loaded vehicles, can be alleviated by replacing the existing brake differential valve with a 275 psi proportioning valve (E0TZ-2B257- A). The procedure for making this installation is as follows:

Figure 7:

1. The E0TZ-2B257-A proportioning valve has a 1/2"-20 thread size for the front brake system inlet port, Port A in Figure 7. Cut the end of the front brake tube to replace the existing tube nut with a 1/2"-20 tube nut (use existing 1/2"-20 tube nut from rear brake tube). Reflare the front brake tube as shown in Truck Shop Manual, page 12-01-14 and connect the tube to Port A.
2. The E0TZ-2B257-A proportioning valve has a 3/8"-24 thread size for the rear brake system inlet port, Port B in Figure 7. Install a 3/8"-24 tube nut (procure locally) on the rear brake tube and flare the tube as shown in Truck Shop Manual, page 12-01-14. Connect tube to Port B.
3. Complete the installation, and bleed the brake system per Shop Manual Section 12-01.
4. The front and rear tires must be inflated to pressure levels specified on the Safety Compliance Certification Label located on the driver's door rear pillar.
5. If the rear brake shoe and linings have been previously replaced, the linings must be verified for correct level. The correct linings are in service assembly E1TZ-2200-B with the primary (front) lining color code yellow/red and the secondary (rear) lining color code white/white.
