Rear Main Seal - Oil Leak

- OPTIONAL CRANKSHAFT WEAR SLEEVE AND REAR OIL SEAL PACKAGE

LIGHT TRUCK 1983-85 E & F SERIES

A Crankshaft Wear Sleeve and Rear Oil Seal Package, E5TZ-6701-B, is available for use in cases of rear oil seal leak repeat repairs, and for engine overhaul, if required.

IMPORTANT

Upon visual inspection, the seal surface on the crankshaft flange should be free of nicks, scoring, etc. The seal witness mark on the crankshaft flange should be continuous and unbroken. The optional wear sleeve and oil seal package (E5TZ-6701-B) should be installed if the condition of the crankshaft flange surface is questionable.

Following are the installation instructions for the package:

1. Follow normal rear oil seal installation procedures as outlined in the Shop Manual, Pages 22-08-29 and 30 with the following variations:

2. If the crankshaft flange has been previously fitted with a wear sleeve, remove by striking O.D. with hammer and chisel. Be careful not to damage the crankshaft flange face or O.D.

3. Apply hydraulic sealant or equivalent around crankshaft flange (360~) per Figure 7.

4. Position wear sleeve into disposable tool per Figure 8.

5. Mount wear sleeve and tool assembly to crankcase flange per Figure 9.

6. Insure alignment of wear sleeve to flange; then drive sleeve on using plastic hammer until tool bottoms against flange face.

7. Remove bolts and installation tool and inspect per Figure 10.
