Reduced power or poor performance on the subject vehicles may be caused by fuel vaporization when operated at ambient temperatures above 85~F or at elevation over 4,500 ft.

The following procedures and Figures 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 show the modifications required to utilize the existing service kits used in TSB 83-11-12, dated 6-1-83 on the 1983-84 trucks.

Procedures for Modifying Engine Compartment Wiring

Dual Tanks

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Locate the 8-way and 4-way connectors below steering column (Figure 15).
3. Disconnect the 4-way connectors - 14401 and 14405.
4. Remove 3 wires from 14405 connector - #675 (Yel-Lt/Bl-H), #673 (Dk/Bl-Y-S) and #674 (BrnW-S). Tape back to 14405 wiring harness.
5. Rework the 14A303 wiring overlay supplied in service kit as shown in Figure 14.
6. Route the 14A303 wiring overlay to dash panel.
7. Insert the three loose wires from Step #5 into the existing 14405 4-way connector and connect to the 14401.
8. Route the new 14406 wiring overlay.
9. Connect the single and 6-way connectors from the 14A303 to the 14406.
10. Proceed to remaining steps as outlined in instructions in TSB 83-11-12.

NOTE: Figure 18 shows the revised wiring diagram for dual tank trucks.

Single Tanks

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Locate the 8-way and 4-way connectors below steering column (Figure 17).
3. Disconnect the 4-way connectors - 14401 and 14405.
4. Remove one wire from the 14405 connector - #29 (Yel-W-S).
5. Rework the 14A303 wiring overlay supplied in service kit as shown on Figure 16.
6. Route the 14A303 wiring overlay to dash panel.
7. Insert the one loose wire from Step #5 into the existing 14405 4-way connector and connect to the 14401.
8. Route the new 14406 wiring overlay.
9. Connect the single and 3-way connectors from the 14A303 to the 14406.
10. Proceed to remaining steps as outlined in instructions in TSB 83-11-12.
