B.Preparation of Engine and New Intake Manifold

1. Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the intake manifold, cylinder heads, and cylinder block, using a solvent such as Ford Spot Remover B7A-19521-A or equivalent.
2. Remove temperature sensor from old manifold, (located left front), clean threads, and install in same location on new manifold using teflon tape on threads.

3. Apply sealer (B5A-19554-A or D7AZ-19554-B) to the threads of the new water outlet elbow (E4TE- 18599-DA or DB), and install the elbow as shown in Figure 19. Tighten to 12-18 ft.lbs., then rotate clockwise only not more than one full turn to installed position shown on View A of Figure 19.
4. Apply sealer (B5A-19554-A or D7AZ-19554-B) to the threads of the new EGR vacuum control valve (E1AE-9D473-A1A) and one of the yellow 3 port PVS valves (E1AE-8A564-JA). Install the EGR vacuum control valve and the PVS valve as shown
in Figure 19. Tighten both valves to 6-10 ft.lbs., then rotate clockwise only to index as shown on View A of Figure 19.
5. Install front vacuum tree (386901-S100) and rear vacuum tree (E4UE-9D446-EA), using teflon sealer on threads. Tighten to 6-10 ft.lbs., then rotate clockwise only until vacuum ports are aligned frontto-rear on the front tree and left-to-right on rear tree.
6. Install the four carburetor mounting studs (88471-S), applying sealer (B5A-19554-A or D7AZ-19554-B) to the left front and left rear mounting studs only. Torque to 10-12 ft.lbs.
7. Plug the four carb ports with clean rags to prevent foreign material entry.
