New Process (4-Speed Transmission)

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove transmission shift lever, ball and boot assembly.
3. Remove transfer case shift lever, ball and boot assembly.
4. Remove floor pan transmission cover.
5. Remove gearshift lever and knob from housing. Use tool No. T73T-7220-A or equivalent to remove inner cap, then lift off spring seat, spring and lever.
6. Disconnect back up lamp switch electrical connector from gearshift housing cover.
7. Raise and support vehicle.
8. Drain transfer case, then disconnect front driveshaft from case and wire to one side.
9. Remove shift link cotter pin and the shift link.
10. Remove speedometer cable from transfer case.
11. Remove 3 support bracket to transfer case attaching bolts.
12. Position suitable jack under transfer case, then remove mounting bolts and the transfer case.
13. Position suitable jack under transmission, then remove rear support attaching bolts and the rear support.
14. Remove transmission-to-clutch housing attaching bolts and lower transmission from vehicle.
15. Reverse procedure to install.
