Dealer Installed Air Conditioning - Installation
83ford19 Article No. 83-7-16AIR CONDITIONING - DEALER INSTALLED - INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
LIGHT TRUCKS 1983 RANGER
NVH concerns on some 1983 Ranger light trucks equipped with dealer installed air conditioning may be caused by the following:
^ Compressor mounting bracket bolts were loose or broken.
^ Compressor braces were omitted or not installed.
^ Compressor supports were omitted or not installed.
Proper installation of the compressor mounting bracket bolts and the brace and support will prevent incidents of broken/loose bolts.
When installing engine component kits E3TZ-19B969- A or E3TZ-19B969-C on Ranger 2.0/2.3L vehicles, special attention must be given to the two bolts that attach the main compressor bracket to the engine. The upper attaching hole location must use the 10 mm - 1.50 mm x 25 mm bolt, while the lower hole location uses the 10 mm - 1.50 mm x 30 mm bolt (original kits include both size bolts). Using the longer length bolt in the upper attaching hole can result in the bolt bottoming out before the compressor bracket is secure to the engine.
An engine components kit contents change, currently being implemented, will supply two 25 mm bolts to preclude future improper installations.
In addition, it is necessary that the compressor brace and support included in the two engine component kits be installed to assure adequate support for the compressor.
