Oil Pan: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect ground cables from both batteries.
2. Remove engine oil dipstick, then drain cooling system.
3. Disconnect air intake hose from intake manifold and air cleaner.
4. Remove engine cooling fan and fan shroud.
5. Disconnect radiator hoses, then remove radiator upper support brackets and the radiator and fan shroud.
6. Disconnect and cap fuel lines at fuel filter and return line at injection pump.
7. Remove fuel filter, then the filter mounting bracket.
8. Remove engine bracket-to-insulator attaching nuts.
9. Raise and support vehicle.
10. Loosen transmission insulator attaching bolts at rear of transmission.
11. Remove lower engine insulator attaching bolts, then drain engine oil.
12. Remove primary oil filter, then the bypass filter mounting bracket and hoses.
13. Lower vehicle.
14. Attach suitable lifting equipment to engine and raise engine until insulator studs clear insulators.
15. Slide engine forward and raise approximately 3 inches.
16. Install a 3 inch wooden block between each engine mount and bracket, then lower engine and remove engine lifting device.
17. Raise and support vehicle.
18. Remove oil pan attaching bolts and lower oil pan to rest on crossmember.
19. Disconnect oil pickup tube from oil pump and bearing cap and lay in oil pan.
20. Slide oil pan forward and up, and remove from vehicle. It may be necessary to move the A/C condenser forward to provide clearance for pan removal.
21. Reverse procedure to install. Apply a {1/8} inch bead of suitable sealer to split line between engine block and front cover along side rails and at ends of oil pan seals which contact oil pan gaskets.
