HEATER - DEBRIS (LEAVES) DISCHARGE THROUGH REGISTERS

LIGHT TRUCKS 1983-84 RANGER & BRONCO II

Incidents of leaves entering the cowl area through the cowl grille and passing into the heater system may be eliminated as follows:

Figure 14:

^ Procure locally: (1) enough hardware cloth with 1/4" squares or smaller in it to fabricate grille screens (See Figure 14 shown in the center of this TSB, for a pattern) and (2) 1 oz. of two-part epoxy.
^ Cut the hardware cloth to size, using the pattern (Figure 14).

^ Color coat the screens to match the body color.
^ Cut any small electric wires into 4" lengths or use plastic bag ties (approx. 20) to be used to position the screens securely.
^ Remove the R.H. windshield wiper linkage cover (see Ranger/Bronco II Truck Shop Manual, 35-60-14 Figure 10) to allow access to install the screens.
^ Insert the R.H. screen into the cowl, making sure that the orientation of the screen mesh is the same as the cowl grille.
^ Tie the screen up into place under the cowl grille, using as many tie wires as necessary to secure the screen.
^ Mix a small portion of the two-part epoxy and put a drop in at least 4 places on each grille bar, making sure that the screen wire is completely covered at each point of attachment.
^ Repeat the process on the L.H. grille opening, making sure the epoxy is completely hardened before releasing the tie wires.
^ Reinstall the access cover and release the vehicle.
