One of the lugs on the Ford integral power steering gear (XR-50) valve housing has been removed as shown in Figure 28 to increase clearance between the gear assembly and the fuel pump on the 2.8L V6 engine on Ranger/Bronco II vehicles.

Whenever replacing a gear assembly, control valve assembly or control valve housing on Ranger/Bronco II it MUST be without the lug as shown.

Installation of a gear assembly with the lug on subject vehicles may result in interference with the fuel pump under certain operating conditions.
