EXHAUST SYSTEM RATTLE (2.0L/2.3L) WITH MCU/MTA TUBE BRACKET TO CATALYTIC CONVERTER INLET PIPE FRACTURES - REPLACES TSB ARTICLE 83-3-30-S

LIGHT TRUCKS 1983 RANGER

This article supersedes TSB Article 83-3-30 dated February 8, 1983, and provides revised dimensions to prevent a possible interference and rattling condition.

Exhaust system rattle/noise could be caused by a broken MTA tube support bracket at the catalytic converter inlet pipe. The following instructions illustrate the fabrication of an "L" shaped bracket and clamp assembly to replace a broken support bracket.

Figure 13:

1. Fabricate an "L" shaped bracket from 1/8" stock per (Figure 13).

Figure 14:

2. Loosely assemble the fabricated bracket and pipe clamp to the MTA tube as shown in Figure 14.

NOTE: In some instances, the MTA tube clamp at the catalytic converter will have to be loosened to achieve proper alignment without bind.
3. Tighten clamp and bracket bolt when proper alignment is assured.
