Article No. 84-10-14

NOISE - EXHAUST SYSTEM RATTLE/ MTA TUBE BRACKET OR CATALYTIC CONVERTER INLET PIPE FRACTURE (2.0L, EXCEPT CALIFORNIA) AND (2.3L ALL CALIBRATIONS) W/MCU

LIGHT TRUCKS 1983 RANGER

A revised MTA tube and bracket support are now available to avoid fracture of MTA tube or MTA bracket assembly.

Exhaust system rattle/noise could be caused by a broken MTA tube support bracket at the catalytic converter inlet pipe or a crack in the weld of the converter inlet pipe itself. If the concern is with the MTA tube bracket or the tube itself, a revised bracket/tube assembly is now available and the system should be revised as follows:

FIGURE 23:

When the MTA tube bracket on the MTA tube requires service: (See Point "A"), Figure 23

^ Replace the old MTA tube with the newly released MTA tube E3TZ-5F235-H (same as MTA tube released for 1982-1/2 except with slip bracket).

When the MTA tube bracket on the converter inlet pipe requires service: (See Point "B"). Figure 23

^ Replace the MTA tube bracket on the inlet pipe with muffler clamp/bracket assembly as indicated in the TSB Article 83-3-30-S in TSB 83-18, page 39.
^ Replace old MTA tube with the newly released MTA tube (E3TZ-5F235-H).

Obtain an Authorized Modifications decal and list the date, dealer number and summary of alterations performed.
