LIGHT TRUCKS 1983 RANGER
Low power, low fuel economy, and/or poor cold drive quality on the subject vehicles may be caused by distributor mechanical advance. The following "in vehicle" distributor test specifications will allow you to determine if the distributor is functioning correctly:
1. Remove and plug the vacuum hose which connects to the distributor diaphragm.
2. Using a timing light, check the timing advance to the following limits:
Engine Nominal Tolerance
RPM Timing Advance +/- 4~
1000 8~ 4~-12~
1500 14~ 10~-18~
2000 16~ 12~-20~
3000 23~ 19~-27~
4000 28~ 24~-32~
3. If the centrifugal advance is not functioning to the above limits, replace the distributor (E27E-12127- BA) using the procedure outlined on Page 23-01-5 of the Ignition Section (Section 23) of the 1983 Ranger Truck Shop Manual.
