LIGHT TRUCKS 1983 RANGER
The transfer case assembly has been revised by incorporating a shift assist spring into the front transfer case section to assure a more positive engagement of the "4L" shift.
The following supplemental service procedure should be inserted into the 1983-84 Ranger Shop Manual, Section 16-85-10 on the service and assembly of the Warner Gear Model 13-50 Transfer Case Assembly.

(Refer to Operation #15, Page 10). After the shift cam (7F063); shift lever/shaft (7B106); and snap ring (387949-S) have been assembled to the front case assembly (7005) and with the shift lever/shaft (7B106) positioned into "4WH" detent, place the assist spring roller (7C191) into "part-position" on the 90~ bent tang of the assist spring (7C349) (Figure 14, Views D and E) and insert the assist roller (7C191) into the assist spring/roller slot of the shift cam (7F063 - New Design) (Figure 14, Views A and B). Position the middle section of the assist spring (7C349) into the groove of the front case (7005) pivot boss (Figure 14, Views C and D) and push-to-lock the upper end of the assist spring (7C349) behind the front case spring anchor tab (Figure 14, Views C and D).
Disassembly of the new designed transfer case will require the removal of the above spring, roller, and cam and will require revision to operations 26, 27, 28 and 29 of Page #8 of Section 16-85 to include the above parts.
NOTE: The above parts cannot be installed into the following prior model transfer case assemblies unless the case half is also replaced.
