Inspection

THIS ARTICLE INCLUDES CHANGES MADE BY TSB #83-8-12 DATED APRIL 1983

1. The caliper piston must be "bottomed out" when replacing pad and lining assemblies with new parts. "Bottom out" the caliper piston with an eight inch c-clamp using a worn out inner pad or a block of wood to push against the piston. Never attempt to "bottom out" piston with outer pad installed.

Installing Anti-Rattle Clip:

2. Place a new anti-rattle clip on the lower end of the inner pad. Be sure the tabs on the clip are positioned properly and the clip is fully seated.

Installing Inner Shoe And Anti-Rattle Clip:

3. Position the inner pad and anti-rattle clip in the pad abutment with the anti-rattle clip tab against the pad abutment and the loop-type spring away from the rotor. Compress the anti-rattle clip and slide the upper end of the pad in position.

Outer Pad Installation:

4. Bottom caliper piston in caliper. Install the outer pad, making sure the torque buttons on the pad spring clip are seated solidly in the matching holes in the caliper.
5. Install the caliper on the spindle, making sure the mounting surfaces are free of dirt and lubricate the caliper grooves with disc brake caliper grease.

Caliper Pin Installation:

NOTICE: A new split shell brake caliper pin has been released to replace the nut and bolt design. The part number is E3TZ-2C150-A. Do not use the bolt and nut design.

6. Position pin with the pin retention tabs oriented adjacent to the spindle groove.
7. Tap the pin on the outboard end with a hammer. Continue tapping the pin inward until the retention tabs on the sides of the pin contact the spindle face. Repeat procedure for the lower pin.

Correct Caliper Pin Installation:

CAUTION: During the installation procedure do not allow the tabs of the caliper pin to be tapped too far into the spindle groove. If this happens it will be necessary to tap the other end of the caliper pin until the tabs snap into place. The tabs on each end of the caliper pin must be free to catch on the spindle flanks.

8. If removed, install the brake hose to the caliper and perform brake bleeding procedures.

WARNING: Before moving vehicle, pump brake pedal several times to be sure it is firm. Do not move vehicle until a firm pedal is obtained.
