LIGHT TRUCKS 1983 RANGER
If engine cold starting is difficult, the cold start cable may not be functioning properly. Perform the following inspection:
^ Cycle the cold-start knob in and out. If the knob can be slid in and out with no resistance, inspect the cable sleeve section for cracks or breakage (in the engine compartment).
Figure 20:
^ If the sleeve is cracked or broken, replace the upper section of cable (E3TZ-9F723-B). Follow the procedure in Figure 20 for proper connection to the lower control assembly.
^ If the cable sleeve is not cracked or broken, perform Steps 2 and 3 in Figure 20 to complete the cable assembly connection. Again, cycle the cold-start knob in and out (resistance should now be felt). The timing advance manual lever on the fuel injection pump is now being actuated for cold-start purposes.
