The oil pan must be removed out of the front of the engine compartment on models equipped with automatic transmission, and out of the rear of the engine compartment on models equipped with manual transmission.
1. Remove air cleaner assembly, engine oil dipstick and engine mount attaching nuts.
2. On models equipped with automatic transmission, disconnect transmission oil cooler lines from radiator.
3. On all models, remove fan shroud.
4. On models equipped with automatic transmission, remove radiator attaching bolts, then lift radiator up and wire it to the hood.
5. On all models, raise and support vehicle.
6. Drain engine oil, then remove starting motor.
7. Disconnect exhaust pipe to inlet pipe bracket from Thermactor check valve, then the catalytic converter at inlet pipe.
8. Remove transmission mount-to-crossmember attaching nuts.
9. On models equipped with automatic transmission, remove converter housing bellcrank, oil cooler lines and front crossmember.
10. On models equipped with manual transmission, disconnect right front lower shock absorber mount.
11. On all models, raise engine with a suitable jack, then place a 2 {1/2} inch block of wood under engine and remove jack.
12. On models equipped with automatic transmission, raise transmission slightly with a suitable jack.
13. On all models, remove oil pan attaching bolts and lower pan onto chassis.
14. Remove low oil level sensor, if equipped, then remove oil pump drive, pickup tube assembly and oil pan.
15. Reverse procedure to install. Refer to Figs. 17 and 18 for torque specifications.
