Fuel Pump: Service and Repair

EXCEPT EFI ENGINES

1. Loosen fuel pump attaching bolts one or two turns and apply hand force to pump to loosen gasket.
2. Rotate engine until fuel pump cam lobe is near its low position to reduce pressure on pump.
3. Disconnect fuel lines from pump.
4. Remove fuel pump attaching bolts and the pump. Remove and discard gasket.
5. Clean all gasket material from engine and fuel pump.
6. Install attaching bolts into fuel pump, then install new gasket over bolts.
7. Install bolts and torque alternately and evenly to 18 ft. lbs.
8. Connect fuel lines to fuel pump, then operate engine and check for leaks.
