Checking Pinion

4-143/2.3L Engine
1. Remove wire from M terminal on starter solenoid.
2. Connect positive lead of 12 volt source to terminal S and negative lead to terminal M.
3. Set switch to ``ON'', causing pinion to move outward. Do not apply power for more than 10 seconds continuously.
4. Lightly depress pinion, measuring length of depression. If this length is less than .008 inch, adjust number of gaskets at switch area as required.
