Poor fuel economy may relate to a malfunctioning thermactor diverter valve (9F491). Thermactor air being diverted upstream during stabilized drive modes will adversely affect vehicle fuel economy. Perform an MCU self-test and pinpoint tests 10, 11 or 12, Section 16, where applicable from the 1983 Truck Engine Emissions Diagnosis Manual. If the diverter valve is not functioning as required, replace it with the parts listed below.
