Pinpoint Test J: DTC U0140:00

Blind Spot Monitoring

Pinpoint Test J: DTC U0140:00

Normal Operation

The Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right (SOD-R) and Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left (SOD-L) receive network messages from the Body Control Module (BCM) via the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN). The following information is included in the messages:

- Transmission gear selected

- Vehicle speed

As more than one module receives these messages, all modules receiving a particular message should exhibit a symptom if the message is missing.

- DTC U0140:00 (Lost Communication With Body Control Module: No Sub Type Information)- set by the SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right) or the SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) when network messages are missing from the BCM (Body Control Module) with the ignition in RUN.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Communication network concern

- Blind Spot Information System (BLIS(R)) /Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) system concern

- BCM (Body Control Module)

PINPOINT TEST J : DTC U0140:00

J1 VERIFY THE CUSTOMER CONCERN

- Ignition ON.

- Verify there is an observable symptom present.

Is an observable symptom present?

Yes
GO to J2.

No
The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.

J2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK

- Ignition ON.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.

- Carry out the network test.

Does the BCM (Body Control Module) pass the network test?

Yes
GO to J3.

No
REFER to Information Bus.

J3 RECHECK THE SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right) OR THE SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) DTCs

- Clear the DTCs. Repeat the SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right) or the SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) self-test.

Is DTC U0140:00 still present?

Yes
GO to J4.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.

J4 CHECK FOR LOST COMMUNICATION DTCs

- Ignition ON.

- Clear continuous DTCs from all modules.

- Ignition OFF.

- Ignition ON.

- Wait at least 10 seconds.

- Retrieve all continuous DTCs from all modules.

Is DTC U0140:00 set in any other module?

Yes
GO to J5.

No
If DTC U0140:00 only sets in SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left), GO to J6. If DTC U0140:00 only sets in SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right), GO to J7.

J5 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (Body Control Module) OPERATION

- Disconnect the BCM (Body Control Module) connector.

- Check for:
- corrosion

- damaged pins

- pushed-out pins

- Connect the BCM (Body Control Module) connector and make sure it seats correctly.

Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new BCM (Body Control Module). CLEAR all continuous DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR all continuous DTCs. REPEAT the self-test for the module(s) that set DTC U0140:00.

J6 CHECK FOR CORRECT SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) OPERATION

- Connect all disconnected connectors.

- Disconnect the SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) connector.

- Check for:
- corrosion

- damaged pins

- pushed-out pins

- Connect the SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) connector and make sure it seats correctly.

- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left). REFER to Side Obstacle Detection (SOD) Module . TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.

J7 CHECK FOR CORRECT SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right) OPERATION

- Connect all disconnected connectors.

- Disconnect the SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right) connector.

- Check for:
- corrosion

- damaged pins

- pushed-out pins

- Connect the SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right) connector and make sure it seats correctly.

- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right). REFER to Side Obstacle Detection (SOD) Module . TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
