Pinpoint Test AB: The Low Fuel Message Center Indicator Is Never/Always On
Normal Operation
The low fuel message center indicator illuminates when the Distance To Empty (DTE) display is equal to 120 km (75 miles) (with a MyKey(R) programmed key) or 80 km (50 miles) (with an administrator key) to empty, the system is operating correctly. The low fuel warning indicator illuminates when the DTE (Distance To Empty) display is 120 km (75 miles) (with a MyKey(R) programmed key) or 80 km (50 miles) (with an administrator key) to empty or less.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Fuel gauge indication concern
- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)
PINPOINT TEST AB : THE LOW FUEL MESSAGE CENTER INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON
AB1 CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER WARNING INDICATOR FUNCTION
- Close all doors, hood and liftgate.
- Ignition ON.
- NOTE: If multiple warnings are present, the message center cycles through each of the warning indicators. Allow the message center to cycle through each display while determining whether the door ajar message center warning indicator is active.
Open the driver door while monitoring the door ajar message center warning indicator.
Does the driver door ajar message center warning indicator turn off with the driver door closed and illuminate with the driver door open?
Yes
GO to AB2.
No
INSTALL a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
AB2 CHECK THE FUEL GAUGE OPERATION
- Verify the fuel gauge is operating correctly and is not registering empty (E) or full (F) all the time.
Does the fuel gauge operate correctly?
Yes
GO to AB3
No
GO to Pinpoint Test B (single fuel tank) Pinpoint Test B: Incorrect Fuel Gauge Indication - Single Sender L-Shaped Fuel Tank or GO to Pinpoint Test C (dual fuel tanks) Pinpoint Test C: Incorrect Fuel Gauge Indication - Dual Sender Saddle-Type Tank.
AB3 CHECK THE DTE (Distance To Empty) REMAINING MILEAGE DISPLAYED
- Access the DTE (Distance To Empty) information in the trip computer display (base IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)) or fuel economy display (optional IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)).
Does the DTE (Distance To Empty) indicate 120 km (75 miles) (with a MyKey(R)) or 80 km (50 miles) (with an administrator programmed key) or less?
Yes
If the low fuel message center indicator is never on, INSTALL a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
If the low fuel message center warning indicator is always on, the system is operating correctly at this time.
No
If the low fuel message center warning indicator is always on, INSTALL a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
If the low fuel message center warning indicator is never on, the system is operating correctly at this time. The low fuel message center indicator illuminates when the fuel level is at or below 1/16 tank (1/8 with MyKey(R) programmed key).
