Pinpoint Test D: No Power in START - Vehicles With an Ignition Switch
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 13, Power Distribution/BCM for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 20, Starting System for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.
Normal Operation
When the ignition switch is turned to the START position, a voltage signal is sent to the Body Control Module (BCM) and the PCM. The BCM (Body Control Module) sends out a voltage signal to various modules to indicate a start event and the PCM checks various inputs and bus messages in an effort to start the vehicle.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Ignition switch
PINPOINT TEST D : NO POWER IN START - VEHICLES WITH AN IGNITION SWITCH
NOTICE: Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multi-meter probes.
D1 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE BCM (Body Control Module) AND PCM
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: BCM (Body Control Module) C2280B.
- Disconnect: PCM C175B.
- With the ignition switch to the START position, measure the voltage between ground and:
- BCM (Body Control Module) C2280B-47, circuit CDC35 (BU/WH), harness side.
- PCM C175B-16, circuit CDC35 (BU/WH), harness side.
Are the voltages greater than 10 volts?
Yes
GO to D2.
No
REPAIR circuit CDC35 (BU/WH). TEST the system for normal operation.
D2 CHECK THE IGNITION START CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Ignition Switch C250.
- Measure the resistance between ignition switch C250-7, circuit CDC35 (BU/WH), harness side and:
- BCM (Body Control Module) C2280B-47, circuit CDC35 (BU/WH), harness side.
- PCM C175B-16, circuit CDC35 (BU/WH), harness side.
Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to Ignition Switch . TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR circuit CDC35 (BU/WH). TEST the system for normal operation.
