Pinpoint Tests - OSC Equipped Vehicle

PINPOINT TEST F : TSS (Turbine Shaft Speed) SENSOR

NOTE: Refer to the transmission connector illustrations and solenoid body leadframe internal wiring diagram Transaxle Connector Layouts .

NOTE: TSS (Turbine Shaft Speed) sensor codes may be a result of bad power and ground circuits shared between the TR (Transmission Range) sensor, OSS (Output Shaft Speed) sensor and TSS (Turbine Shaft Speed) sensor.

F1 ELECTRONIC DIAGNOSTICS

- Check to make sure the C1520A, C1520B and TCM (Transmission Control Module) C1750 are fully seated, terminals are engaged in connector and in good condition before proceeding.

Have the items above been checked?

Yes
GO to F2.

No
CARRY OUT the checks. CLEAR the codes. RERUN the OBD (On-Board Diagnostic) tests.

F2 ELECTRONIC DIAGNOSTICS

- Connect the scan tool.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: DataLogger- TCM (Transmission Control Module).

- Monitor the TSS_SRC PID while test driving the vehicle.

Is the TSS (Turbine Shaft Speed) sensor signal present and consistent?

Yes
The condition that set the DTC is intermittent and is not currently present. CLEAR the DTCs. RERUN the OBD (On-Board Diagnostic) tests.

No
GO to F3.

F3 CHECK THE TSS (Turbine Shaft Speed) CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN CIRCUIT

- Disconnect: C1520B.

- Disconnect: TCM (Transmission Control Module) C1750.

- Use a mirror to inspect both ends of the connectors for damage or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.

- Measure the resistance between C1520B and the TCM (Transmission Control Module) C1750.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

Yes
GO to F4.

No
REPAIR the circuit(s) for an open. CONNECT all components. TEST the system for normal operation.

F4 CHECK THE TSS (Turbine Shaft Speed) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

- Disconnect: C1520A.

- Measure the resistance between C1520B and ground.

Is any voltage present?

Yes
REPAIR the circuit(s). CONNECT all components. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to F6.

F6 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE AND GROUND AT THE TSS (Turbine Shaft Speed) SENSOR CONNECTOR

- Connect: TCM (Transmission Control Module) C1750.

- Ignition ON.

- Measure the voltage between C1520B-1 and C1520B-3.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
INSTALL a new speed sensor. REFER to TSS (Turbine Shaft Speed). TEST the system for normal operation. If the condition is still present, INSTALL a new TCM (Transmission Control Module). REFER to Transmission Control Module (TCM) .

No
INSTALL a new TCM (Transmission Control Module). REFER to Transmission Control Module (TCM) . TEST the system for normal operation.
