FORD:
1995 TAURUS

ISSUE:
The rear tail lamp center compartment appears dark when headlamps are on for Brazil vehicles returned to the U.S. The same vehicles may also have a single filament socket housing a double filament bulb within the rear tail lamp center compartment. This difference may be construed as a malfunction of the lights. The light function is different in Brazil and wiring was not converted to U.S./Canada "standard."

ACTION:
Verify that vehicle is "Brazilian" reimported and change the tail lamp harnesses to restore U.S. light function except for "brake input to non-active turn signal filament." Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

Some 1995 model year Taurus vehicles were originally built and modified for sale in Brazil, but were subsequently returned to the U.S. and modified for sale in the U.S. These Taurus vehicles were sold through auction and a "disclosure" statement was provided and signed. This statement should be in the sales file at the selling dealer. The disclosure contains specifics regarding vehicle specific option content and possible deviation from U.S. standard equipped vehicles. The warranty coverage and start date is also specifically discussed. VEHICLES MAY BE VISUALLY IDENTIFIABLE BY THE VIN ETCHED IN THE GLASS AND BY AN ODOMETER STICKER NEAR THE CERTIFICATE LABEL.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove rear tail lamp wiring harness by referring to the 1995 Taurus/Sable Service Manual, Section 17.

2. Install two (2) new Rear Tail Lamp Wiring Harnesses (F2DZ-13410-A) by referring to the 1995 Taurus/Sable Service Manual, Section 17.

NOTE:
THE INSIDE STOP LAMPS ON REWORKED VEHICLES WILL NOT ILLUMINATE DUE TO DELETED 810 CIRCUIT AT THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPAIR.








3. Inspect rear tail lamp operation per Figures 1 and 2.
