Inspection

1. Remove oil pump.
2. Lift pump gears out of pocket in oil pump and filter body, then remove oil pump body seal and discard.
3. Clean engine front cover and oil pump and filter body sealing surfaces.
4. Using straightedge and feeler gauge, measure across engine front cover mounting surface for wear or warpage.
5. If surface is out of flat by more than 0.0016 inch, replace front cover.
6. Lightly pack gear pockets with petroleum jelly or coat all gear surfaces with engine assembly lubricant D9AZ-19579-D.

CAUTION: Do not use chassis lubricants. Failure to properly coat oil pump gears may result in failure of pump to prime when engine is started.

7. Install gears in oil pump and filter body pocket. Ensure petroleum jelly fills all voids between gears and pockets.
8. Position oil pump body seal and install oil pump and filter body to engine front cover using alignment dowels on engine front cover.
