Right Side
1. Disconnect coil ignition wire from ignition coil and ignition wires from spark plugs.2. Remove spark plugs, then raise and support vehicle.
3. Disconnect EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube from exhaust manifold.
4. On models equipped with automatic transmission, remove transmission fluid level indicator tube.
5. Remove heater inlet tube and hose.
6. Remove exhaust manifold to dual converter Y pipe nuts, then lower vehicle.
Fig. 4 Righthand exhaust manifold replacement:
7. Remove exhaust manifold bolts, then manifold and gasket.
8. If installing new manifold, remove heated oxygen sensor.
9. Reverse procedure to install, noting following:
a. Lightly oil all bolt and stud threads before installation, except those specifying special sealant.
b. Clean righthand exhaust manifold, cylinder head and dual converter and Y pipe mating surfaces.
c. Coat heated oxygen sensor threads with high temperature anti-seize compound.
CAUTION: Do not allow anti-seize compound to enter sensor flutes. Possible damage to heated oxygen sensor may occur.
d. Position exhaust manifold and exhaust manifold gasket on cylinder head and start two bolts. Slight warpage in exhaust manifold may cause misalignment between bolt holes in cylinder head and exhaust manifold. Elongate holes in exhaust manifold as necessary to correct misalignment. Do not elongate pilot hole.
e. Tighten exhaust manifold to 23-26 ft lb. Start engine and check for exhaust leaks.
f. Check transmission fluid level.
