ISSUE

The 2000 model year Taurus was launched with four dealer order option package codes called LX, SE, SES, and SEL. These option codes were initially just option codes. The vehicles only used two decklid emblems, the LX and SE. On May 24th, 2000 the Atlanta Assembly Plant and on July 25th, 2000 the Chicago Assembly Plant incorporated the new SES and SEL emblem because of field requests to differentiate the vehicles and their feature content.

ACTION

Add an "L" or "S" letter to upgrade the existing Taurus SE emblem. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE








To identify the eligible vehicles, review the following features. The SEL has illuminated visors (Figure 2) and automatic headlamps (Figure 3). The SES has illuminated visors (Figure 2) and manual headlamps.

Obtain the additional letters to convent a Taurus SE to an SEL or SES by ordering a "TAURUS LX" Emblem (YF1Z-7442528-AA) and using the "L" or "S" from that emblem.

1. Clean the area around the decklid Taurus SE emblem.





2. Tape the location template below the existing emblem (Figure 1). The left most vertical line on the template should be aligned with the right side of the letter "E" on the vehicle's emblem.

3. Cut the desired letter from the "TAURUS LX" emblem.

NOTE:
KEEP THE CLEAR PLASTIC AND PAPER TAPE BACKING ON THE LETTERS.

4. Hold the letter by the clear plastic and remove the paper tape backing from the letter.

5. Holding the emblem by the ends of the clear plastic, line up the letter within the right two lines on the template and affix letter by applying gentle pressure.

6. Remove paper template.

7. Allow 30 minutes for the adhesive to cure before gently removing the clear plastic. Allow 24 hours before subjecting vehicle to any manual or automatic car wash.
