Steering Column Shaft

Removal and Installation
1. Turn the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position.

2. CAUTION: Do not allow the steering wheel to rotate while the steering column intermediate shaft is disconnected or damage to the clockspring can result. If there is evidence that the intermediate shaft has rotated, the clockspring must be removed and recentered.





Remove the pinch bolt and disconnect the lower intermediate shaft from the upper intermediate shaft.
^ Discard the bolt.





3. Remove the pinch bolt and disconnect the upper intermediate shaft from the isolator.
^ Discard the bolt.





4. Remove the nuts, bearing and seal and the upper intermediate shaft.





5. Remove the pinch bolt and the lower intermediate shaft.
^ Discard the bolt.
6. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
