Front Steering Knuckle: Service and Repair

Wheel Knuckle

Removal and Installation

1. WARNING: The electrical power to the air suspension system must be turned off prior to hoisting, jacking or towing an air suspension vehicle. Failure to do so can result in unexpected inflation or deflation of the air springs, which can result in shifting of the vehicle during these operations.





Turn the air suspension service switch off.
2. Remove the wheel bearing and hub.

3. NOTE: Use the holding feature to prevent the stud from turning while removing the nut.





Remove and nut and detach the tie-rod from the wheel knuckle.

4. NOTE: The stabilizer bar links are under pressure when the suspension is in the rebound position.





Using a suitable jack stand, raise the suspension arms until the pressure is released from the stabilizer bar links.

5. NOTE: Use the holding feature to prevent the stud from turning while removing the nut.

Remove and discard the nut.

6. NOTE: Use the holding feature to prevent the stud from turning while removing the nut.





Remove the nut and the stabilizer bar link.
^ Discard the nut.





7. Detach the retainer.

8. NOTE: Use the holding feature to prevent the stud from turning while removing the nut.





Remove and discard the nut.

9. NOTE: Use the holding feature to prevent the stud from turning while removing the nut.





Remove the nut and the wheel knuckle.
^ Discard the nut.
10. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
11. Check and, if necessary, align the front end.
