Hydraulic Control Assembly - Antilock Brakes: Service and Repair

Hydraulic Control Unit - (HCU)

Removal and Installation

WARNING: Brake fluid contains polyglycol ethers and polyglycols. Avoid contract with eyes. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. If brake fluid contacts eyes, flush eyes with running water for 15 minutes. Get medical attention if irritation persists. If taken internally, drink water and induce vomiting. Get medical attention immediately.

CAUTION: Brake fluid is harmful to painted and plastic surfaces. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, immediately wash it with water.

1. Remove the air cleaner.
2. Disconnect the battery.

3. NOTE: Plug each port of the hydraulic control unit (HCU) to prevent brake fluid from spilling.





Disconnect the brake lines.





4. Disconnect the anti-lock brake control module electrical connectors.





5. Remove the mounting bracket to HCU bolts.
6. Remove the anti-lock brake control module.








7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
8. Bleed brake system as necessary.
