NOTE: The location of the engine mountings and the engine support insulators are given looking from the automatic transaxle towards to the engine.
1. Remove the battery tray.
2. Remove the air cleaner housing.
1. Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector.
2. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation hose.
3. Disconnect the air cleaner outlet hose.
- Pull out the air cleaner housing from the rubber bushings.
3. NOTE: The resonator is plugged into the bracket.
Remove the air cleaner intake pipe with resonator.
4. Loosen the left-hand strut and spring assembly top mount nuts by four turns.
5. Remove the intake tube.
6. Disconnect the turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor electrical connector.
7. Disconnect the electrical connectors and the selector lever cable from the automatic transaxle selector lever assembly.

8. Remove the starter motor upper retaining bolts.
9. Using the special tools, secure the engine.
10. Remove the fluid filler pipe/selector lever cable bracket.
11. Remove the left-hand front wheel and tire.
12. Remove the exhaust pipe and exhaust pipe bracket.
13. If necessary, disconnect the starter motor electrical connectors (two nuts).
14. If necessary, remove the starter motor lower retaining bolt.
15. Remove the engine right-hand support insulator.
1. Remove the bolt and the nut.
2. Remove the bolt.
16. Remove the tie-rod end retaining nuts.
17. CAUTION: Protect the ball joint seal using a soft cloth to prevent damage.
Using the special tool, detach the tie-rod ball joint.
18. Detach both suspension arms (left-hand side shown).
19. Remove the mounting bracket from right-hand front drive halfshaft intermediate bearing.
20. CAUTION: The inner joint must not be bent more than 18 degrees. The outer joint must not be bent more than 45 degrees.
Remove the right-hand front drive halfshaft from the transaxle and tie it up.
21. CAUTION: The inner joint must not be bent more than 18 degrees. The outer joint must not be bent at more than 45 degrees.
Remove the left-hand front drive halfshaft from the transaxle.
- Using the special tool, detach the halfshaft from the transaxle.
- Pull out the halfshaft from the transaxle, using cable ties, tie it up.
- Using a plug, close off the transaxle opening.
22. Disconnect the output shaft speed (OSS) sensor electrical connector.
23. CAUTION: Hold the case fittings while loosening the fluid cooler line fittings to prevent damage to the cooler lines.
NOTE: Mark the location.
Detach the fluid cooler lines from the transaxle.
24. Remove the torque converter cover bolts (if equipped).
25. Disconnect the torque converter from the engine drive plate (four nuts).
26. NOTE: The location of the different length bolts to aid installation.
Remove the upper flange retaining bolts.
27. Remove the engine rear mounting.
28. Using the special tools, lower the engine and transaxle assembly slightly.
29. Remove the engine rear mounting bracket.
30. Remove the fluid filler pipe.
- Remove the screw and pull off the pipe.
31. NOTE: The location of the different length bolts for installation.
Remove the left-hand flange bolts.
32. Secure the transaxle with a retaining strap, and support it using a transmission jack.
33. NOTE: The location of the different length bolts for installation.
Remove the right-hand flange bolt.
34. Separate the transaxle from the engine and lower the transaxle.
- Remove and discard the dowel pins.
35. Install the special tool, to prevent damage to the torque converter.
