Gearshift Cables

Removal
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the air cleaner.
3. Raise the vehicle.





4. NOTE: Press the locking tab.

Detach the gearshift cables from the transaxle.
1. Detach the shift cable from the shift lever.
2. Detach the selector cable from the selector lever.





5. Detach the gearshift cables from the bracket.
1. Detach the shift cable from the retaining bracket, turning the abutment sleeve counterclockwise.
2. Detach the selector cable from the retaining bracket, turning the abutment sleeve counterclockwise.





6. Disconnect the exhaust flange and remove it from the rubber insulators.





7. Disconnect the center exhaust hanger and the support exhaust with wire.





8. Detach the heat shield and push it backwards.
- Unclip the shift and selector cables from the floor pan.
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Remove the floor console.





11. Remove the gearshift lever cover.
1. Unclip the cover.
2. Twist off the gearshift lever knob. Take out the damping sleeves and compression spring.





12. Remove the center armrest brace





13. Remove the rear footwell heating duct.





14. Remove the center console trim panel.
- Remove the LH and RH retaining bolts (RH side shown).





15. Remove the right-hand lower I/P trim panel.





16. Remove the lower heater case duct.
- Remove the LH and RH bolts and unclip (RH side shown).





17. Detach the gearshift and selector cables from the gearshift lever.
- Detach the gearshift and selector cables by twisting the abutment collar counterclockwise.





18. Cut the carpet and damping matting and fold them to one side (heater heat exchanger not shown).





19. Remove the gearshift cables.
- Detach the duct for the gear shift cables from the floor assembly and pull the cables through to the interior (heater heat exchanger not shown).

Installation





1. Install the shift cables.
- Push the gearshift cables through from the interior of the vehicle and attach the duct for the gearshift cables to the floor assembly (shown with the heat exchanger removed).





2. Attach the gearshift and selector cables to the gearshift and selector levers.
- Attach the gearshift and selector cables by twisting the abutment collar counterclockwise.





3. Close the carpet and damping matting (shown with the heat exchanger removed).





4. Install the lower heater case duct.





5. Install the right-hand lower I/P panel.





6. Install the center armrest brace.





7. Install the rear footwell heating duct.





8. Install the center console trim panel.
- Install the LH and RH retaining bolts (RH side shown).
9. Raise the vehicle.





10. Install the front heat shield.





11. Connect the center exhaust hanger and remove the support wire.





12. Connect the exhaust flange and install it to the rubber insulators.
13. Lower the vehicle.





14. Attach the gearshift cables to the bracket.
1. Attach the shift cable to the retaining bracket, turning the abutment sleeve counterclockwise.
2. Attach the selector cable to the retaining bracket, turning the abutment sleeve counterclockwise.
15. Adjust the gearshift and selector cables.





16. Install the gear shift lever cover and knob.
1. Clip the cover.
2. Install the damping sleeves and compression spring. Twist on the gearshift lever knob.
17. Install the air cleaner.
18. Connect the battery ground cable.
