Headliner: Service and Repair
HEADLINERGeneral Equipment
- 6 mm flat-bladed screwdriver
REMOVAL
All vehicles
1. Remove the A-pillar trim panels.
2. Disconnect and detach the interior lighting wiring harness and washer tube from the A-pillar.
3. Remove the C-pillar trim panels.
4. Remove the sun visors.
5. Remove the sun visor retaining clips.
Vehicles without roof opening panel
6. Detach the interior lamp.
7. Disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the interior lamp.
8. Remove the interior lamp bezel.
Vehicles with manual roof opening panel
9. Using a suitable screwdriver, detach the interior lamp from the overhead console.
10. Disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the interior lamp.
11. Remove the roof opening panel regulator handle.
12. Remove the overhead console.
Vehicles with power roof opening panel
13. CAUTION: To avoid damage, the overhead console trim panel must only be pulled downwards enough to detach the retaining clips.
Detach the overhead console trim panel from the overhead console.
1 Using a suitable screwdriver, detach the front retaining clips.
2 Pull the overhead console trim panel downwards to detach the side retaining clips.
3 Push the overhead console trim panel forwards to detach the rear retaining clips.
14. Remove the overhead console trim panel.
- Disconnect the power roof opening panel control switch electrical connector.
15. Using a suitable screwdriver, detach the interior lamp from the overhead console.
16. Disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the interior lamp.
17. Detach the overhead console from the roof panel.
- Remove the retaining screws.
18. Remove the overhead console.
1 Detach the front retaining clips.
2 Detach the side retaining clips.
3 Push the overhead console forwards to detach the rear retaining clips.
Vehicles with roof opening panel
19. Remove the roof opening panel weatherstrip.
Vehicles built up to 03/2000
20. Remove the passenger assist handles.
1 Lever open the screw covers.
2 Remove the retaining screws.
Vehicles built 03/2000 onwards
21. Lever open the covers on the passenger assist handles.
22. Using a suitable 6 mm flat-bladed screwdriver remove the passenger assist handles.
- Rotate the screwdriver 90 degrees to release the retaining clips.
4-door, 5-door and wagon
23. Remove the headliner trim panels.
24. Detach the rear interior lamp.
25. Disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the rear interior lamp.
Wagon
26. Remove the D-pillar trim panels.
27. CAUTION: Remove the trim panel at a 45 degree angle to avoid damaging the trim panel clips.
Remove the headliner trim panels.
All vehicles
28. Remove the headliner rear retaining clips.
29. Disconnect the rear washer tube from the headliner.
3-door, 5-door and wagon
30. Remove the headliner through the liftgate opening.
4-door
31. NOTE: Recline the passenger seat backrest to allow removal of the headliner.
Remove the headliner through the passenger door opening.
INSTALLATION
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
