Oil Pump: Service and Repair

Oil Pump

Removal
1. Remove the timing belt.





2. Remove the crankshaft timing pulley.
1. Remove the crankshaft timing pulley.
2. Remove the thrust washer.





3. Detach the air conditioning (A/C) compressor from the bracket and secure it on the radiator crossmember.





4. Remove the A/C compressor bracket (engine shown removed for clarity).





5. Remove the intermediate shaft center bearing bracket.
6. Remove the oil pan.





7. CAUTION: Note the location of any spacer shims between the transaxle and the lower crankcase to aid installation. The spacer shims must be installed in the same location during oil pump installation.

Remove the lower crankcase (engine shown removed for clarity).
1. Remove the oil pick-up tube.
2. Remove the lower crankcase retaining bolts.
^ Discard the gasket.





8. Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner.





9. Remove the oil pump (engine shown removed for clarity).
^ Discard the gasket.

Installation





1. NOTE: Install a new oil pump gasket

NOTE: Do not fully tighten the oil pump retaining bolts at this stage.

Install the oil pump (engine shown removed for clarity).





2. Align the oil pump on both sides so that the mating face is between 0.3 mm - 0.8 mm above the lower edge of the cylinder block.





3. Tighten the oil pump retaining bolts (engine shown removed for clarity).





4. Install the accessory drive belt tensioner.





5. CAUTION: Make sure that any spacer shims between the transaxle and the lower crankcase are installed in their original location.

NOTE: First tighten the bolts on the transaxle.

NOTE: Install a new lower crankcase gasket.

Install the lower crankcase (engine shown removed for clarity).
1. Tighten the bolts.
2. Install the oil pump pick-up tube.
6. Install the oil pan.





7. Install the intermediate shaft center bearing bracket.





8. Install the air conditioning (A/C) compressor bracket (engine shown removed for clarity).





9. Attach the A/C compressor to the bracket.





10. Install the crankshaft timing pulley.
1. Install the thrust washer.
2. Install the crankshaft timing pulley.
11. Install the timing belt.
