Battery Cable: Service and Repair
BATTERY CABLESREMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery ground cables.
1. Disconnect the auxiliary ground cables.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect the battery power cables.
1. Disconnect the auxiliary ground cables.
2. Disconnect the battery power cable.
3. Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector.
4. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) tube.
5. Position the air cleaner aside.
6. Disconnect the ground cable.
7. Release the battery cables from the retaining clips.
8. Disconnect the starter motor solenoid electrical connector.
Vehicles with 2.0L SPI engine
9. Disconnect the engine ground cable.
Vehicles with 2.0L Zetec-E engine
10. Disconnect the engine ground cable.
All vehicles
11. Raise and support the vehicle.
12. Disconnect the starter motor electrical connectors.
Vehicles with 2.0L SPI engine
13. Disconnect the generator electrical connector.
Vehicles with 2.0L Zetec-E engine
14. Lower the vehicle.
15. Disconnect the generator electrical connector.
All vehicles
16. Remove the battery cables.

1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
